Co-op Guide
Subnautica 2 supports up to 4 players on PC and Xbox cross-platform. Here's how to get the most out of multiplayer.
⚙️ Getting Started — Session Setup
Host starts a new game or loads a save
Only the host's game progress is saved. All players follow the host's story progress.
Enable multiplayer in game settings
Host goes to Settings → Multiplayer → "Enable Cross-Play" for Xbox + PC together.
Share session code or friend invite
Xbox: join via friends list or party chat. PC: Steam invites or session code.

Builder / Engineer
Primary base builder. Keeps power running, expands base, places modules. Should have Habitat Builder.

Gatherer / Explorer
Resource gatherer and scout. Goes deep, collects materials, identifies new locations.

Combat / Defender
Handles predator threats. Has best equipment for deep zones and dangerous encounters.

Navigator / Support
Tracks objectives, manages inventory, provides directions. Keeps team organized.

💡 Pro Tip: Resource Sharing
Drop resources at a shared "depot" base that everyone can access. Assign one player (Builder) as depot manager. Keep personal inventories light — move everything important to the base storage ASAP. If a player dies, they drop everything nearby.
💡 Pro Tip: Death Recovery
When a player dies, their items scatter at the death location. Other players can recover the items. Don't leave without picking up — especially if the deceased had rare resources or story items.
🎮 Co-op works on all chapters. Each player's Biomods are independent — team members can have different loadouts. Cross-platform (PC + Xbox) fully supported.
